We have to say goodbye to Portland, but a lot of great things are still waiting for us. Today we drove first to Tillamook, on the Oregon coast. There we did the Three Capes Drive, a scenic drive along the coast, with stops and some beautiful view points. The Oregon coast is very nice. For the first time we also saw actual beaches!
After the scenic drive we continued our journey south on the 101. The entire trip consists of highlights: beautiful views of the coast, interesting little seaside towns, amazing scenery.
Just before we entered Depoe, we stopped to have a look at the coast. We saw a nice coast, but what’s better: we saw gray whales! Depoe is well known for whale watching. The reason: the grey whales pass here when they travel to the northern waters. Instead of having to book a whale watching trip, we saw them right there from the view point!
We stopped at a small town called Yachats. We got a very nice room in the Overleaf Lodge. Our room had a fireplace, a fantastic view of the coast and the ocean and last but but not least: a 2-person jacuzzi in front of the window!!
Dinner was at the Landmark, a local family restaurant that was really bad… Don’t go there. Food is so-so, we got appetizers and main course all at once (‘sorry, I didn’t think the appetizers took that long to prepare’).
We decided to stay 2 nights in the Overleaf. Tomorrow we’ll explore the area south of Yachats,
