The started foggy. But that changed during the morning. At 9am we were at the Hearst castle visitor center to pick up our tickets and get some breakfast. Then the tour started.
It is impossible to describe the castle: this is something you have to see for yourself. It is beautiful, over the top, museum-like, ridiculous, amazing, etc. William Randolph Hearst has built something that is unique in the world. The outside pool is the most beautiful pool I’ve seen, although the indoor pool is not bad either. The main house is grotesque. It is full with art from the 15th and 16th century, it can host many guests: the dining table can handle 22 guests; the private cinema could host 50 guests. But as said before: this is too difficult to describe. Go and visit the ranch (as Hearst called it himself) yourself.
After the tour we watched a National Geographic movie about the castle and William R. Hearst. It was all very interesting.
After lunch we headed for our next stop: Anaheim (Disneyland!). It was a looooong drive and the least prettiest so far. We did drive along the coast between Ventura and Santa Monica (driving through Malibu). Once we got to LA the smog immediately caught our attention. And driving in it for about 1.5-2 hours is definitely something you notice when you breath.
We arrived around 8pm, checked into our room (suite!) and headed for ‘Downtown Disneyland: and area with shops, restaurants and entertainment. Here we walked around and had dinner. A good preparation for the Disney experience of tomorrow 🙂
