We started the day with breakfast on our own private patio. John and Dawn brought a delicious breakfast, so we ended our stay at the Jabberwock Inn very positively. After giving them souvenirs from Holland (small wooden shoes) we had to say goodbye. Too bad, this is a wonderful place (Monterey AND the Jabberwock).
Today was the ‘Big Sur’ day. The trip along the most beautiful part of the coast between San Francisco and Los Angeles. And it was indeed very beautiful, but have been spoiled by the coast of Oregon and North California, so it was not as overwhelming as what we have seen before. But it is still an amazing coast. We drove most of the trip, stopping at 1-2 viewpoints, Bigsby Bridge and for lunch at one of the many state parks. The most interesting stop was just before Hearst castle. In this area (around San Simeon) there are many elephant seals. They do nothing but lying around on beaches 🙂 They are very, very big with huge noses…. And very funny and interesting to see them this close (you can come very close, but that is dangerous: they are wild animals.
We stopped early today, because we have tickets to visit Hearst castle tomorrow morning. We checked into the Cavalier Oceanfront Resort and had dinner in Cambria on the patio of the Moonstone Grill. During dinner Karin saw a fox walking across the road! One more animal we can add to the list of wildlife we’ve seen so far.
