Sundays are resting days. Not for us: ‘shopping’ is the key word! Nike and Columbia originated from Portland, so they both have big stores. Rob lost it entirely at the Columbia flagship store. From socks to shirts, pants to polo’s, etc. But Karin offered a good response by not only buying a bag-full at Columbia, but also at Niketown.
But shopping aside: Portland is a great city. A real nice city center, with many shops, restaurants, bars, etc. And guess what: they love to dine outside, something you don’t see too much in the US. It has a very laid back atmosphere, and you see many people who live alternative lifestyles walking around town. Oh, and there are also a lot of people living on the street. Much more then we’ve seen anywhere else.
We picked the right weekend to be in Portland. There was the Riverfest (‘Praise the Lord’), but also a bit Italian festival, with food, singers, theatre, etc. And after talking to some Portlanders, we heard that the city organizes festivals and event the entire summer long. So, you don’t have to get bored.
We finished the evening in Champions, the hotel’s sports bar, to watch the closing ceremony of the Olympics.
Yes. Portland was fantastic!
