Today was Redwood forest day. Not a lot of coast today. Instead we drove through the Redwood National park. The Redwood treed are enormous. They are real giants! And I’m sure that’s why the scenic road we drove on is called ‘Avenue of the Giants’. These trees are very big, and very impressive. And everywhere are tourist places where the trees are the main attraction in one form or another: the tree house, the log house, the world famous tree house, the drive-thru tree (well, there turned out to be a couple), wood sculpture places, etc. We did do one of the more famous drive-thru trees. It is fun, but over before you know it 🙂
We had lunch at a very quaint little town, called Ferndale. It is full of old victorian houses and very unlike most of the other towns we have seen in California so far.
Because this is labour day weekend, all the little towns where we would like to stay are full with tourists. So we decided to stay the night in Ukiah, a little bit away from our route, but at least there is lodging available!
