From the coast to Crater Lake National Park. A loooooong trip. We departed just before 9:30, and arrived around 16:00. The drive to the national park (the only one in Oregon) is beautiful. Most of the time we drove next to a river or a creek. And a major part of the road was actually an ‘official’ scenic road. But it is still a long drive. Not a lot to tell, or it must be the turkey sandwich I bought in a small store. We drove 5 miles further to enjoy our lunch. There we found out that my sandwich was still 80% deep-frozen.
After checking in to our hotel (Mazema Motor Inn), we drove up the the crater lake. Wow! What an amazing sight! A volcano crater filled with melting water and rainwater. Tomorrow we’ll drive around the crater (there is a road that surrounds the entire crater). Next to the crater is the Crater Lake Lodge, built in 1916. A wonderful classy lodge. We had dinner here. And dinner was really nice.
We did go to bed real early, because another long day is waiting for us tomorrow.
