Today we had to take it a bit slow. We were both hungover from yesterday’s party. This was probably the best New Year’s Eve we’ve had in a long time!
We stayed in bed a bit longer and once we got up it was time for brunch. Had had our breakfast/lunch at the Dutch Pancake House. Very funny, to see ‘typical dutch’ stuff on the walls etc. The pancakes were excellent, so that tradition is at least in place in Stowe.
After lunch we headed to Mt Spruce for a last afternoon skiing. Weather was beautiful, but cold. We took the bubbles to Mt Mansfield, mut when we arrived, we found out that most lifts were closed. Due to the wind condititions, we found out later. We took one of the two lifts that were open, and we’ll never forget that: we have never, ever been so cold! With the windchill it was -42C/-44F !! It took us some 20 minutes to get to the top, and it was storming there. Karin was actually hurting from the cold (her fingers). So the best thing to do was: ski down, because after 100-200m you ski in the forrest, so there is almost no wind there. It was funny to see all the snowboarders that were literally blown away by the storm.
We made it down ok, but decided not to go up again. Instead we went back to Mt Spruce for some easier skiing in the sun and with considerably less wind! Karin called it a day after 2 runs, but I continued a but longer. Skiing in Stowe is wonderful!
So, this was the last day in Stowe. We feel bad that we have to leave. It is a great place! But all good things must come to an end. We returned the skis, had dinner at our Inn and packed our bags so we can leave early tomorrow.
