Winter in Stowe

Winter in Stowe

We got up early today and headed to Mt Spruce for some skiing lessons. Yes we can ski, but we felt it was a good thing to do, since we hadn’t skied in 2 years.
And it is a fun way to meet other people. The morning was ok, good teacher, fun people in the group. And I have to say, skiing went pretty good, considering the fact we did not see any skis for two years.

Lunch was at the Mt Spruce Lodge. This is a really nice facility: all you need is there: skischool, lift ticket sales, ski shop, bar, fireplace next to the bar, free lockers to store your stuff, and a big restaurant. The only problem: not enough seating space available for all the visitors! So we had to look hard for a table. But we managed, and lunch was pretty good.

After lunch we went back to the ski lessons. This time we were separated after one testrun. I joined the small group of ‘better skiers’ and Karin got the opportunity to take it a bit slower. We were both happy with this.
After the lessons we did a few runs on our own before we went back to the lounge for a hot drink.
It was a very nice 1st ski day.

Dinner was a disaster. Karin wanted a steak, so we went to this place called ‘The Shed’. It was horrible. First of all they lied to us about how long it would take before we would be seated. They said 40 minutes, but we could wait in the bar. That’s what we did. We had a local beer (actually brewed by The Shed) which was pretty good and waited to get dinner.

After 30 minutes I checked, and they told me ‘a few more minutes’. So 10 minutes later we got out of the bar and asked for our table. ‘A few more minutes’ was the answer. To cut a long story short: many people were pissed off because the waiting was sooo long, and they told everyone that their table was ready ‘in a few minutes’. It was too late to go to some other restaurant, so we waited. After another 45 mintes we finally got a table. Services was slow and poor, and the food was horrible. The tables around us were not cleaned, so we were sitting between a number of empty tables, stacked with food and thrash. I gave no tip and wrote some complaints on the bill.
Please: do not go to this place.
